private sessions at home

Play session with child: A private session that is catered to your child’s unique needs based on intake with caregivers. It may involve therapeutic play, developmentally appropriate education about diagnosis, illness, procedure or treatment and other individualized psychosocial interventions.

Procedural support for patient/family: The child life specialist can provide emotional support to child and caregivers for a procedure at home which may include preparation in developmentally appropriate language, distraction and education about positive coping techniques.

Sibling session: A private session with the sibling of an ill child or a child with special needs. The session would be catered to the sibling’s unique emotional needs and would involve a range of therapeutic play, education and coping support.

 

Parental support

A private session, which can be facilitated in person or over the phone, in which the child life specialist is able to educate caregivers on the best way to support their children through a healthcare experience. The child life specialist will provide concrete information and recommendations including appropriate language, preparation materials, education tools and creative expression activities.
